Toyota Sienna Brief History
Toyota Sienna is a minivan launched as a replacement for first-generation Toyota Previa in 1997. The vehicle was named after Italian City Siena and it shares a platform with Camry. Initially, its size was smaller than the competitors. But the company increased its dimensions in 2003 to match those of its competitors.
Sienna Received the Top Safety Pick Award by IIHS in 2010. The hybrid version of the Toyota Sienna was launched in 2020.
Evolution of Toyota Sienna
Toyota has launched 4 generations of Toyota Sienna over the past 22 years.
First Generation (1997-2003)
The first-generation Toyota Sienna was launched as a front-wheel-drive minivan with a 3.0L 1MZ-FE V6 engine with the ability to produce 194-horsepower. The first generation was available in three trim levels known as CE, LE, and XLE.
In this model, the gear lever was on the steering column. It became quite popular because of its safety features in its class. The company added a facelift to both front and rear fascias in 2001.
Second Generation (2004-2009)
The second generation was launched with an upgraded 3.3L 3MZ-FE V6 engine that was later upgraded to a 3.5L 2GR-FE V6 engine. This model’s length, width, and height were bigger than the first generation and it was launched as a 5-speed automatic transmission.
Unlike first-generation, this model had the gear lever on the center console. It was launched in 4 different trim levels including CE, LE, XLE, and Limited.
Third Generation (2010-2020)
The third-generation Sienna was the first model launched with a four-cylinder engine. It was available in five trim levels including based, LE, XLE, Limited, and SE. This generation was more stylish than its predecessors. Over the years, several changes were made to the interior and exterior.
Fourth Generation (2021-Present)
The front of the fourth-generation Toyota Sienna is designed according to the iconic Shinkansen Japanese Bullet Train. Its sharply angled headlights, massive front grille, and aggressive rear fenders add an excellent touch of beauty to its overall design. This generation is available in six different trim levels including LE, XLE, XSE, Wonderland, Limited, and Platinum.
