Scion iA Brief History

Scion iA History

The Scion iA was introduced as a rebranded version of the Mazda2 sedan in the United States and was built in Mexico by Mazda. It was the first sedan to be offered by the Scion brand, which was created by Toyota to appeal to younger car buyers.

It was powered by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produced 106 horsepower. The engine was paired with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.

The Scion iA was introduced at the New York International Auto Show in 2015 and went on sale later that year. It was marketed as a stylish and affordable car that offered a fun driving experience. It was also equipped with a range of advanced safety features, including a rearview camera, forward collision warning, and low-speed automatic emergency braking.

Despite its many strengths, the iA was not a strong seller for Scion. In fact, the brand was struggling as a whole at the time, and in 2016 Toyota made the decision to discontinue the Scion brand entirely. The iA was one of the few Scion models that was retained, however, and it was rebranded as the Toyota Yaris iA for the 2017 model year.

Under the Toyota nameplate, the Yaris iA continued to be sold in the United States until 2019. It was then replaced by the Toyota Yaris hatchback, which was developed entirely in-house by Toyota.

What’s the Price of a Used Scion iA in the United States?
