Scion FR-S Brief History
Scion FR-S was launched as a sports car in 2012. Its name represents different aspects of the car i.e. Front engine, Rear-wheel drive, and Sport. It was launched with a 2.0L four-cylinder engine. It’s available as a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Its selling point was the customization options it offered at that time. The buyers could either purchase the car with the factory-installed components or they could get additional features installed by the dealership according to their preferences. Thus, it easily matched the buyer’s budget.
The company also introduced limited editions of this car over the years.
This version was introduced on the 10th anniversary of the Scion marque in 2013. This version came with a few advanced features like automatic climate control, HID headlights, illuminated exterior badges, and push-button start. The company produced only 2,500 units of this special edition that were painted in Silver Ignition.
This limited edition was introduced in 2014 and it shared most of its features with Toyota GTS such as automatic high-intensity discharge headlamps, rear seat center armrest, LED daytime running lights, frameless rearview mirror, color-keyed rear spoiler, heated leather and Alcantara seats, and more.
The company produced only 2,000 units of the Monogram Series. And only 25% of the total production units were equipped with manual transmission.
Release Series 1.0
This limited edition was introduced in April 2014 that came with Yuzu Yellow paint. It features the highest specification along with the TRD steering wheel, TRD lowered suspension, quad-tip exhaust system, TRD shift knob, and more. This version made a remarkable impression with its numbered commemorative plaque near the gearshift lever. The company produced 1,500 units of this model.
Release Series 2.0
This version was introduced in 2015 and the company announced the production of 1,000 units of this limited edition. In 2016, the Scion FR-S was rebranded as Toyota 86 because the Scion marque was discontinued.
