Saturn Sky Brief History

Saturn Sky History

Saturn Sky was introduced as a 2-door roadster in 2006 as the model year 2007. It shares its platform with Pontiac Solstice. Its manufacturing unit was established at the Wilmington Assembly plant in Wilmington, Delaware. It was launched with two engine options including a 2.4 four-cylinder and a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

For racing enthusiasts, the company offered a turbo upgrade kit that could be installed through the dealership. It was available as a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed automatic transmission. In the European market, it was marketed as Opel GT. And in South Korea, a rebadged version of Saturn Sky was marketed as Daewoo G2X.

The production of this model was dropped with the demise of the Saturn brand in 2009.

Evolution of Saturn Sky

Saturn Motors introduced different versions of Saturn Sky throughout its production.

Saturn Sky Red Line

Saturn Sky Red Line

It was the upgraded version of the Saturn Sky that was capable of producing more horsepower than the base model. This model offered a few additional features like StabiliTrak stability control, torque-sensing limited-slip differential, and an enhanced sport suspension.

Moreover, it came with dual exhausts and a specific front fascia. Its interior was distinguished by the special tachometer, specially embroidered seats and floor mats, stainless steel pedals, and a digital boost gauge.

Limited Editions

The Carbon Flash Special Edition of this vehicle was introduced in 2008 that came with unique metallic Carbon Flash paint color, Monsoon premium audio system, and removable silver racing stripe. The company produced around 550 units of this version. This model was distinguished by its silver inserts in the interior seating and steering.

Moreover, the company launched two more limited editions of this vehicle in 2009 that were marketed as Hydro Blue Limited Edition and Ruby Red Special Edition.

These models also featured the Monsoon premium stereo. The Hydro Blue was distinguished by the matching blue-colored stitching in the seats and gear shifter. And the Ruby Red was distinguished by the removable carbon racing stripe and it featured the Ruby Red color.

The company had decided to launch 500 units of Hydro Blue and Ruby Red each. But the production of Hydro Blue was discontinued only after 89 units because GM had declared bankruptcy. Hydro Blue Limited Edition can be the best option for those who are looking to buy a sports car that truly stands out.
