Saab 9000 was launched as a 4-door saloon and a 5-door liftback in 1984. Following the success of turbocharged 99 and 900 models, this vehicle was launched to represent the company in the executive cars segment. This car was replaced by Saab 9-5 in 1998.

This vehicle was introduced in collaboration with Fiat Automobiles, an Italian automaker. That’s why it was based on the Type Four Platform. Saab 9000 was initially launched with a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Later on, the company introduced a 2.3L turbocharged four-cylinder engine in 1990.

It was available as a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic transmission.

The company introduced three different variants of the Saab 9000 over the years.

9000 CC (liftback)

Saab 9000 CC

This version was launched with an upright front design. The standard version was capable of producing 175 horsepower. However, the company introduced a few variations of this model in different countries that offered more horsepower. The company produced 216,385 units of this model and it was discontinued in 1991.

9000 CD (Sedan)

Saab 9000 CD

This model was introduced in 1988. It came with a slightly more aerodynamic nose compared to the CC. This version was best known for its DI Ignition System. In some markets, this vehicle was launched with a V6 engine. But in the United States, the V6 engine was discontinued a year after the launch.

It was an updated version of the 9000 CC liftback. It came with a new grille, new headlights, and a few other interior and exterior upgrades. A limited edition version of this model was introduced on the 50th anniversary of Saab in 1997. This limited edition was offered with a color-keyed body kit, aircraft-inspired Saab logo, and leather seats.
