Rolls Royce Wraith Brief History

Rolls Royce Wraith History

Rolls Royce Wraith was initially introduced as a luxury car in 1938. And that model only survived for a year. Later on, the company again launched this vehicle as a full-size ultra-luxury car in 2013. This new model was introduced as a 2-door pillarless coupe with iconic suicide doors.

Wraith is an Old Scottish word that means “ghost” or “spirit”. The company chose this name following the pattern it designed for its vehicles.

Evolution of Rolls Royce Wraith

Rolls Royce has launched two different models of Rolls Royce Wraith over the years.

Rolls Royce Wraith (1938)

Rolls Royce Wraith First Generation

This model was launched with a 4.3L straight-six engine combined with a 4-speed manual transmission. It used an independent coil-sprung front suspension. It was capable of achieving a top speed of 85mph. The company produced 492 units of this vehicle.

This model appeared in My Favorite Brunette (1947), Turn Coat, James Bond Movie “Spectre”, and a few other movies and books.

Rolls Royce Wraith (2013-2021)

Rolls Royce Wraith Second Generation

This model was launched as a full-size ultra-luxury car/grand-tourer in 2013 as the model year 2014. It was built on the basis of Rolls Royce Ghost. And it was designed as a replacement for Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe. It comes with a 6.6L twin-turbo V12 engine combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The company introduced the Black Badge version of this car which comes with carbon fiber applications in the interior and black-painted exterior elements. Similarly, a limited version was introduced in 2021 that was marketed as Landspeed. It was primarily designed to pay homage to Captain George E.T. Eyston.

The company only produced thirty-five units of this version. Another special edition of this vehicle was marketed as Kryptos. This version was designed to pay homage to the clandestine world of cryptology. The company is going to produce only 50 units of this special edition.

Rolls Royce Wraith Mansory

Some car tuners have also introduced special editions of Rolls Royce Wraith. Mansory, a German car modification company, introduced Wraith Mansory in 2014 which came with several exterior updates like new lower bodywork, a modified front grille, and a new rim system. Similarly, the interior comes with traditional Mansory marble-colored appliances and new carbon fiber applications.

Novitec Group, a German car modification firm, also introduced a modified version of the Rolls Royce Wraith known as Novitec Wraith Overdose. It comes with a lower suspension and lower bodywork. The best part is that it can produce 712 horsepower. It stands out with its special stainless steel exhaust system that generates satisfactory sounds with the electronic sound management system.
