Pontiac Torrent Brief History
Pontiac Torrent was launched as a mid-size crossover SUV in 2005 as the model year 2006. It was introduced as a replacement for Aztek. It shared most of its body parts with Chevrolet Equinox. However, its front and rear end make it look different from Equinox. Moreover, it offers firmer and sportier suspension as compared to Equinox.
Evolution of Pontiac Torrent
Pontiac Torrent was launched as a 5-door SUV. It was available in three different trims including base, GT, and GXP. However, the GT variant was discontinued in 2007. It comes with two engine options including a 3.4L V6 and a 3.6L V6 engine. It was available as a 5-speed automatic and a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Its production was discontinued on September 2, 2009, because General Motors decided to shut down the Pontiac brand. General Motors initially announced that it will be replaced by a new Buick SUV but the company introduced the GMC Terrain as a replacement for Pontiac Torrent in 2009. GMC Terran was based on the GM Theta platform.
