Pontiac Solstice Brief History
Pontiac Solstice was launched as a 2-door roadster and a 2-door coupe in 2004 as the model year 2005. Its exterior is similar to the Solstice concept car that was introduced in 2002. The production was expected to begin before the summer of 2005 but it got delayed due to the heavy production demand at the Wilmington plant.
Solstice was nominated for the Design of the year and North American Car of the Year Award in 2006. The Solstice was well-received by the customers and the company received around 7,000 orders within the first ten days of the launch. In fact, the company received 6,000 more orders before winter.
The company apologized to the customers for the delayed production and delivered the complete orders by March. It was launched with a 2.4L four-cylinder and a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It was available as a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed automatic transmission.
General Motors stopped the production of this vehicle in 2009 because the company decided to close the Pontiac brand following the 2008 economic recession.
