Nissan Frontier Brief History
Nissan Frontier was launched as a replacement for D21 Hardbody in the North American market in 1997. However, it was also launched as a replacement for Navara and NP300 in several markets. The Crew Cab was introduced in 2000 and it played an essential role in boosting Nissan Frontier’s sales.
Evolution of Nissan Frontier
Nissan has launched three generations of Nissan Frontier since its launch in 1997.
First Generation (1997-2004)
The first generation was launched with a 2.4L four-cylinder engine that could produce 180-horsepower. The company also introduced a 3.3L V6 engine for better performance. The users could choose between a 5-speed manual and a four-speed automatic transmission. It was available as single cab and King cab models.
A more aggressive exterior styling was added to the vehicle and the horsepower was increased to 210 in 2001.
Second Generation (2005-2020)
The second generation was larger and more powerful than its predecessor. It was launched with a 2.5L four-cylinder engine with the ability to produce 152-horsepower. The users could also choose a 4.0L V6 engine that delivered 261-horsepower. This time it was available as a 6-speed manual and a 5-speed automatic transmission.
The hood, grille, and wheels were redesigned in 2009. In 2020, a 3.8L V6 engine replaced both the four-cylinder and V6 engines. It was combined with a 9-speed automatic transmission and delivered 310-horsepower.
Third Generation (2021-Present)
The third generation is launched with the same engine option and it’s available in four trim levels. This generation was launched with more advanced driver assistance and safety features. Furthermore, the addition of several tech features made it a leading choice in its category.
