Mercury Mountaineer Brief History
Mercury Mountaineer was introduced as a midsize luxury sport utility vehicle in 1996. It shared a number of features with Ford Explorer. However, it offered a more upscale interior compared to Explorer. It gained a lot of appreciation for its amazing handling and stability. Its production was discontinued in 2010 because Ford decided to shut down the Mercury brand for several reasons.
Evolution of Mercury Mountaineer
Mercury (Ford) has launched three generations of Mercury Mountaineer since 1996.
First Generation (1996-2001)

The first generation was launched with a 4.0L V6 and a 5.0L V8 engine. It was available as a 4-/5-speed automatic transmission. It went through several revisions from 1997 to 1998 because its sales dropped after a few months of its launch. It eventually became the third best-selling vehicle in the Mercury division after these revisions.
Second Generation (2002-2005)
The second generation was launched with two engine options including a 4.0L V6 and a 4.6L V8 engine. Both engine options were combined with a 5-speed automatic transmission. It was offered in a 5-door body configuration. It came with upgraded headlamps, taillamps, front and rear bumpers, and front fenders.
Third Generation (2006-2010)
The third generation carried over the same engine options from the previous generation. However, the horsepower was slightly increased. The V6 engine was combined with a 5-speed automatic transmission and the V8 was combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
