It was the first car-based SUV launched by Mercury. It was officially offered in the U.S, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, U.A.E, and Mexico. It was discontinued in October 2010 because Ford eliminated the Mercury brand.

Mercury has launched two generations of Mercury Mariner since 2005.

The first generation Mercury Mariner was positioned above Mazda Tribute and Ford Escape. It came with turn signal repeaters, a two-tone interior, the Signature Mercury “waterfall” front grille, and monotone cladding.

After the discontinuation of the Mercury Cougar, it was the first Mercury launched with a four-cylinder engine. The company introduced the Mariner Hybrid in 2006 to target a broader market.

Second Generation (2009-2010)
