Honda HR-V History
Honda HR-V (High Rider Revolutionary Vehicle) was first launched in the European market as a three-door/five-door subcompact SUV in 1999. Its production was discontinued in 2006 and it was reintroduced in late 2013 based on the third-generation Honda Fit. This time, it was targeted towards the Japanese Domestic Market.
Later on, the company started its production for the North American Market and other markets in 2015. This model was labeled Honda Vezel in some markets. In fact, the latest edition of Honda HR-V is still labeled as Honda Vezel in China.
Evolution of Honda HR-V
The company has launched three generations of Honda HR-V over the years. There was a gap of almost 7 years between the production of first and second-generation Honda HR-V. However, it dominated the crossover market with its outstanding features.
First Generation (1999-2006)
First Generation Honda HR-V was launched from the Civic’s platform with a different body on the top while extending its wheelbase. In 1999, Honda launched this vehicle as a 3-door/5-door SUV after the successful launch of the Honda CR-V. It became quite popular due to its high seating position, low running costs, and the 4×4 option. However, the company discontinued the production of this vehicle in 2006 for some reasons.
Second Generation (2013-2021)
Although the vehicle’s production was discontinued for almost 7 years, the second generation Honda HR-V gained more popularity with its curved body style and narrow front end. The second-generation vehicle appeared as a great choice for campers because it came with decent trunk space. This model was launched with a gasoline and diesel engine but the diesel engine couldn’t get enough attention.
Third Generation (2021-Present)
The third-generation Honda HR-V appeared as a tough competitor for Hyundai Tucson. Honda made significant changes to the interior and exterior and surprised its fan base with an outstanding design. The third generation came with a lot of advanced features including heated front seats, automatic climate control with touch screen, programmable door locks, and more.
The company has also announced to launch of a new model of Honda-HRV in the North American Market in 2023.
