Ford Mustang Brief History
Ford Mustang was launched in 1964 as a coupe and convertible. It’s the fifth bestselling car among other Ford vehicles. It was best known for its long hood, short deck design. It became so popular that the company sold around 400,000 units of this car within a year. And within two years, the company had sold 1 million units of Ford Mustang.
Evolution of Ford Mustang
Since 1964, Ford has launched 6 generations of Ford Mustang with innovative upgrades.
First Generation (1964-1973)
First generation Mustang was launched as a coupe and convertible allowing users to modify the car according to their styles. It was launched with three engine options including 170-CID straight-six, 4.3L V8, and 289-CID V8. In 1967, the 390-CID V8 engine replaced the 289-CID engine. Furthermore, the company launched a 482-CID Cobra Jet V8 engine for drag racing.
Second Generation (1974-1978)
Second generation was available as a notchback and a hatchback. The engine options were 2.3L four-cylinder, 2.8L V6, and 4.9L V8. This generation won the MotorTrend’s Car of the Year Award.
Third Generation (1979-1993)
A turbocharged 2.3L four-cylinder engine joined the lineup along with a 3.3L l-6 engine. The first convertible mustang was launched in 1983. The old straight-six engine was replaced by a 3.8L V6. Furthermore, the multi-port fuel injection replaced the four-barrel carburetor in 1986.
Fourth Generation (1994-2004)
It was launched with a jellybean shape based on the demand of the consumers. The base engine was a 3.8L V6 and the top engine was a 4.9L V8. A 4.6L OHC V8 replaced the 4.9L V8 in 1996. The suspension was tuned for a softer ride.
Fifth Generation (2005-2014)
Fifth generation was launched with a squared-off shape. The base variant had a 4.0L V6 engine while the top variant had a 4.6L V8 engine. The company launched two new engine options in 2011 including a 3.7L V6 and a 5.0L V8.
Sixth Generation (2015-Present)
