Evolution of Chevrolet Corvette
Chevrolet has launched eight generations of Corvette with several innovative upgrades.
First Generation (1953-1962)
The first generation was launched as a 2-door convertible with a 4.34L V8 engine. In 1956, new face and side coves were introduced. In 1957, the company introduced a “Ramjet” fuel injection system. The interior and exterior were once again updated in 1958.
The car received a new steering wheel, bumper exiting exhaust tips, and quad headlamps. In 1962, a 5.36L V8 engine replaced the 4.34L engine.
Second Generation (1963-1967)
The second generation was smaller than the first generation. It also came with a Sting Ray coupe model. The users could choose between a 5.36L V8 engine and a 6.49L V8 engine. The 1967 model came with less ornamentation, restyled fender vents, and backup lamps.
Third Generation (1968-1982)
The 5.36L V8 engine was replaced by the 5.7L V8. The company also introduced a 7.4L V8 engine for more power. Multiple changes were made to the vehicle over the years. However, the production was discontinued in 1982.
Fourth Generation (1984-1996)
The engine options were carried from the previous generation. This generation came with an all-aluminum suspension and aluminum brake calipers. It was available as a 4-speed manual and a 6-speed manual transmission.
Fifth Generation (1997-2004)
The fifth generation was initially launched as a coupe and the convertible was introduced in 1998. It was available with a carbon fiber hood and titanium exhaust system. It offered excellent performance with its improved rigidity, brakes, suspension, and reduced weight.
Sixth Generation (2005-2013)
The sixth generation was launched with an increased wheelbase and decreased overhangs. The fixed units replaced the retractable headlights. The interior was also significantly improved. Furthermore, it offered better fuel economy compared to the previous generations.
Seventh Generation (2014-2019)
The seventh generation was launched with a 6.2L V8 engine combined with a 7-speed manual transmission. The customers could also opt for a 6-speed automatic and 8-speed automatic transmission.
Eighth Generation (2020-Present)
