Buick Century is a range of upscale full-size cars introduced in 1935. It was a continuation of Series 60 that was introduced in 1930. The 1936 model shared its engine with Roadmaster and Limited Series. It was introduced as a 2-door/4-door sedan and convertible.
In 1982, it was offered as a 2-door coupe, 4-door sedan, and station wagon. It was also updated to front-wheel drive this year.
Evolution of Buick Century
Buick has launched six generations of Buick Century since 1936.
Series 60 (1930-1935)
The Series 60 was launched with a 5.4L Straight-six engine in 1930. Later on, the company introduced a 3.6L straight-six engine in 1931. It was based on GM’s B-body platform. The vehicle’s length was increased in 1933. In 1934, the vehicle came with a 4.6L eight-cylinder engine with a more rounded appearance.
First Generation (1936-1942)
The first generation Century was introduced as a 2-door coupe/convertible and a 4-door sedan/phaeton. It came with a 5.2L inline-eight engine. It was available as a 3-speed synchromesh manual transmission. It was the fastest Buick during those years. Its production was discontinued in 1942 due to World War II.
Second Generation (1954-1958)
The second generation was introduced as a 20door coupe/convertible, 4-door sedan, and a 4-door hardtop Estate. It came with two engine options including a 5.2L V8 and a 6.0L V8. It was available as a 2-speed Dynaflow automatic transmission. The Century was renamed Invicta in 1959.
Third Generation (1973-1977)
