BMW X1 Brief History
BMW X1 was launched as a subcompact luxury 5-door crossover in 2009. It’s the smallest luxury SUV introduced by BMW. It came standard as a rear-wheel-drive and it’s based on the E90 3 Series. It became a leading choice for most buyers with its lower price tag and increased efficiency.
The second generation was based on the UKL2 platform and it was introduced as a front-wheel drive. It shares its platform with Mini Countryman and 2 Series Active Tourer.
Evolution of BMW X1
BMW has launched three generations of BMW X1 since 2009.
First Generation (2009-2014)
The first-generation BMW X1 (E84) was launched to fulfill the rising demand for smaller and more efficient SUV models. The production time for this vehicle was shortened by 40% compared to the previous X Series models because the demand for these SUVs was drastically increasing.
It was introduced in the United States in 2012. A facelift version was launched in 2013 with restyled interior and exterior.
Second Generation (2015-2021)
The second-generation BMW X1 (F48) comes standard as a front-wheel-drive and an all-wheel drive is also available for better performance. It was based on the UKL2 platform. In China, it’s available as long-wheelbase and long-wheelbase hybrid variants.
Third Generation (2022-Present)
The third-generation BMW X1 (U11) comes with a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It’s available as an eight-speed automatic transmission. In some markets, a 1.5L turbocharged three-cylinder engine is also available with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission
