Audi A3 Brief History
Audi A3 was launched as a small family car in 1996. It was initially based on the Volkswagen A Group platform. It had a close resemblance to the Volkswagen Golf Mk4. However, it was later moved to the Volkswagen MQB Platform in 2013.

Audi has launched four generations of Audi A3 since 1996.
First Generation (1996-2002)
The first generation was launched as a 3-door hatchback. The 5-door hatchback body was introduced in 1999. The third generation was introduced in four body styles including a 2-door convertible, 3-door/5-door hatchback, and 4-door sedan. It came with three engine options including a 1.4L turbocharged four-cylinder, 1.8L turbocharged four-cylinder, and 2.0L turbodiesel four-cylinder engine.
It was available as a 6-speed manual and a 6-/7-speed automatic transmission. A facelift version was introduced in 2016 with refreshed front headlights, Matrix LED headlamps, and several other cosmetic changes.
Fourth Generation (2020-Present)
The fourth generation was launched as a 5-door hatchback and a 4-door sedan. It came with a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder and a 2.5L turbocharged five-cylinder engine. It’s available as a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
