Acura MDX Brief History
Acura MDX was launched as a luxury mid-size crossover SUV in 2000 as the model year 2001. MDX stands for “Multi-dimensional luxury”. It shares its platform with Honda Pilot. Acura MDX is the second best-selling mid-size Luxury SUV after Lexus RX. In the Japanese market, it was introduced as a replacement for Honda Horizon.
Evolution of Acura MDX
Honda has launched four generations of Acura MDX since 2000.
First Generation (2001-2006)
The first generation was launched with a 3.5L V6 engine combined with a 5-speed automatic transmission. The navigation system became standard in 2002 and was equipped with a backup camera in 2003. The information about restaurants and other points of interest was added to the navigation system in 2005.
It was initially capable of producing 240 horsepower and was later upgraded to 260 horsepower in 2004.
Second Generation (2007-2013)
The second generation was launched with a 3.7L V6 engine. It was available as a 5-/6-speed automatic transmission. It was offered in three packages including Technology Package, Sport Package, and Entertainment Package.
The Advance Package was introduced in 2010 that came with a blindspot monitoring system, adaptive cruise control, and adaptive damper suspension
Third Generation (2014-2021)
The third generation was launched with a 3.5L V6 engine. The company also introduced a 3.0L V6 engine with the hybrid variant. The base engine was initially available as a 6-speed automatic transmission and was later upgraded to a 9-speed automatic transmission. Whereas the hybrid engine was available as a 7-speed automatic transmission.
A facelift version was introduced in 2017 with LED daytime running lights, restyled LED fog lamps, and a diamond pentagon front grille.
Fourth Generation (2022-Present)
The fourth generation comes with a 3.0L turbocharged V6 and a 3.5L V6 engine. Both engine options are available as a 10-speed automatic transmission.
